Job Summary
California Career College is seeking applications from individuals interested in the Skills Laboratory Coordinator position in the College of Nursing. The Nursing Skills Laboratory Coordinator manages the day-to-day activities of the nursing skills laboratory, including but not limited to teaching and supervising students in skills practice, demonstration, simulation and remediation; maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment; and ensuring ongoing compliance with the OSHA standards of safety rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

Create a learning environment that enhances the student’s ability to use conceptual thinking and problem solving skills.

Utilize research and literature findings to integrate best practices into the lab instruction.

Prepare skills lab demonstrations and simulated learning activities in coordination withinstructors.

Provide resources in the skills and simulation lab for mastery of psychomotor and clinical reasoning skills.

Coordinate and supervise students to ensure that lab experiences meet course outcomes.

Work closely with faculty to plan teaching strategies that will increase the student’s ability to meet clinical skill requirements.

Assist in developing formal lab skill assessments to meet the course outcomes.

Provide feedback and evaluate student skills assessments in coordination with faculty.

Assist in developing and implementing clinically based scenarios for simulation.

Implement and run simulation exercises using low, mid and high-fidelity human patient simulators.

Serve as a resource mentor for remediation of high risk students identified by faculty.

Maintain records of student attendance and skill performance in the laboratory.

Provide BLS instruction to students and faculty, as scheduled.

May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate must have a BSN and preferably an MSN from an accredited institution, a minimum of two years of clinical nursing practice experience in an acute care setting, and be licensed or eligible for licensure as a RN in California.

Previous teaching and simulation experience is preferred, but not required. BLS certified or ability to become instructor certified.
Requirements

Bachelors degree in Nursing

Master’s degree in nursing, doctoral degree or enrolled in a doctoral program preferred

Possession of (or eligible for) RN licensure in the State of California

Two years community and/or geriatrics as an RN required

Teaching experience preferred
Work Conditions

Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
-
Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between local campus buildings, off-campus, and clinical facilities.

Performing duties and attending events outside the normally scheduled work hours occasionally occurs and is required.

Traveling off-campus to a local, regional and/or national eventnoccurs occasionally and is required.
-
Incumbent may be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones, office machines, and nearby oral communications among University personnel and/or students.
